It’s the season of FAME!
In your child’s orange folder you may have noticed our Friends of Axson Montessori Elementary (FAME) flier explaining our non-profit with the sole purpose of raising money so each class will have a para – a requirement in a Montessori environment. I have said in the past “A dollar a day and our paras will stay!” If everyone donated $180 per child, we would raise over $100,000.00! If we make our goal of raising $30,000.00 between now and June, I will become a human fly on the wall. Yup, students and teachers will tape me up and leave me suspended. What’s a little humiliation so long as our children have what they need? Oh yes, I must mention that those Valentine Pencil Grams you purchased brought in $526.00 for FAME. Thanks a bunch for your support.
Get your car washed Wednesday!
Paras and staff will be at Carbux Carwash (in front of Wal-Mart on Beach Blvd., near Hodges) from 1:30-6:00pm washing your cars to raise money for FAME. When you purchase a $20 CarBux, you receive a free $15 carbux carwash, which we will be there to detail your car. We hope you can stop by. Remember, I will do just about anything to raise money for paras.
FCAT Parent Night
We will be discussing the proposed changes in scoring and the grading our Florida’s schools. You really need to hear this because you have a hand in this. We will also talk about the hard work your children have been doing and some quick and simple ways you can help your child perform even better on the FCAT. I will cover childcare, if this is something you will need. Just have your child bring a book or homework. We will have things to color and draw. FCAT Parent Night is for parents of 3rd-5th grade students. For those of you with younger children, there might be even more changes so just wait to attend the year your child will be tested.
Food tastings are back!
This time around, PTA will be serving a fresh veggie or fruit Fridays. Children will be invited to take a sample and will be given a slip that names the fruit or vegetable they have tried as well as nutritional information and ways to prepare it. Our kids are very willing to try foods they have not had before. Be sure to ask them about it Friday. :)
Mark your calendars March 2nd at 8:30 am for a seminar on how to sneak healthy foods in your child’s diet. This is also the day our next staff appreciation luncheon. It will be a healthy theme. When you sign up to bring in a food item, consider submitting a recipe so we can post them on our website.
We are gearing up to submit our winter BoxTops
If you or family members have been collecting BoxTops, it’s time to turn them in. This is free money for us that translate into classroom and toiletry supplies; and that’s a good thing.
