We Made it Through the Budget, Thanks to You!!
It is SOLELY through F.A.M.E. (Friends of Axson Montessori Elementary), that I was able to not only provide paras in all of our classrooms but I was able to restore their hours back up to 25 hours per week. I was also able to bring our receptionist, Wendy Stallworth, to full-time again (we are absolutely giddy about this!), and our media center para, Mrs. Lola Hunter is returning! Because of your financial contributions, we were able to send a check to the district for $39,000 and do what is right for children each and every day at Axson. We are all in this together and I believe it is truly felt when you enter your school.
Please Send In Your Registration Packet
We have 113, (out of 560), students attending school each day with no updated information. It's this kind of stuff that gives me heart palpitations. I can share many stories of student emergencies through my years as an educator where we could not contact parents or guardians. It is an awful situation to be in so please help us by submitting registration materials. They can be found by clicking the Forms tab on this website and print them after completing the necessary information. We also invite you to use a computer in the media center to complete this process. Your child's teacher has notified you if he/she has not received these materials.
International Day of Peace Takes Place Wednesday!
You are invited to join us in singing "Light a Candle for Peace" around the butterfly garden at 11:00 am. We are asking everyone to wear a white shirt or one that symbolizes peace. Afterwards, all classrooms will break bread together by having a picnic lunch in the courtyard area. Since everyone will be eating picnic style, please consider packing a healthy lunch on this day. The media will be here so we will make certain to identify children who are not to be videotaped. The children have begun talks and activities around this theme. One of our very own Axson families filmed last year's event and you can see it on YouTube. Just search for "J. Allen Axson".
Mid-Term Progress Reports Already?
We are quickly approaching the midpoint of our first quarter of school. The first quarter mid-term report will provide you with a progress check thus far. You will receive this type of report (no matter the age of the child) at the midpoint of each grading period.
Open House
Thanks to all families of Lower Elementary students who were able to attend Open House. The children truly enjoy showing you what they do each day. Thank you, also, for being patient as many showed you quite a long work. (-:
Dad's On Hand
A special thanks to Earthworks and Dads on Hand for doing some major maintenance on our butterfly garden, Vivian's memorial garden and classroom repairs this week. You guys are awesome! If you were not able to attend my first DOH! meeting but would like to be a part of this volunteer team please send me an email at renfrop@duvalschools.org.
