J. Allen Axson PTA

J. Allen Axson Public Montessori School will host an Open House Friday, February 5, 2010 from 4.30 - 6.30 pm. This is a unique opportunity to see the Montessori method of teaching in operation at a Duval County public school. The Montessori method uses hands-on materials in a self-paced curriculum within a multi-age classroom. Classrooms will be open so that you may see students interacting with each other and their teachers.

Grades PK3-PK4

To be eligible for the PK3 program your child should be 3 by September 1. Applications are to be turned in to the school and can only be made after a tour of school has been completed. Pre-K magnet seats are given out on a lottery basis with sibling preference is the only available priority. Tuition is $327/month (extended day fees if applicable are extra). Grades K - 1

Applications should be sent downtown for students interested in these grade level openings. Kindergarten students must be 5 by September 1.

Grades 2 - 5

Applications should be sent downtown for students interested in these grade level openings. Students will only be admitted to these grades if they have previous Montessori experience.

Magnet Lottery

Each January the Magnet Office of Duval County Public Schools mails home a ìMagnet Applicationî to students currently enrolled in Duval Public Schools. There is a deadline for turning in this application that must be met to be eligible for the magnet schools. We offer tours on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8.45 and 10 am. Please call to set up tour (992-3600). Students in 2nd grade through 5th grade must bring proof of Montessori experience to the tour in order to get your Magnet Application signed. By getting your Magnet Application signed you receive an advantage in the lottery.

• The first priority of the lottery is students of active duty military families.
• The second lottery priority is siblings of students currently attending J. Allen Axson.
• The third lottery priority is students who would normally attend a Title 1 school in our attendance zones who have toured the school and have a signature.
• The fourth lottery priority is drawn from all students who have toured J. Allen Axson and received a signature in Zones 2,3,7.
• The fifth lottery priority is drawn from all students who have toured J. Allen Axson and received a signature in Zones 1,4,5,6.
• The sixth lottery priority is drawn from all students who apply to J. Allen Axson but who did not tour the school.
• The lottery is drawn in April of each year for the following school year.
